Personal statement draft

Statement:

Name: Abe Jefferson

My interest in acting and working with others to create pieces of dramatic art began long before I even knew it was called 'acting'. From a young age I always loved playing 'pretend' with my sisters or with friends at school and whoever I was acting with, we always worked well as a team to create what our imaginations fed us. Over these years in Primary school the one lesson I had always felt a yearning for had to be drama. I didn't like drama because it was an escape from reality but rather because I felt like it was the entrance to reality and a canvas to use the tools that nature gave us like our imagination to paint to our hearts desire. Throughout middle school these role plays changed into much deeper and meaningful stories as our minds began to develop and we had much more complex feelings and thoughts that our childhood selves couldn't comprehend. Long story short I eventually stopped acting from 14-15 before picking it up again by attending the RCSSD and performing twice in front of hundreds of people. Initially doing that was quite scary but also gave me a rush of adrenaline  and I felt like I could do much more and I had more potential. I eventually went to college to further my studies and I ended up performing on the Shaw Theatre on a production of Romeo and Juliet and the Donmar on The York Realist which gave me so much more experience and memories.

Throughout this time I had also been working on becoming stronger and healthier as I had already experienced very poor mental/physical health from a negative mindset. I began Kung Fu in search for change in my life and I began becoming physically stronger and my mind with it's will and endurance had also become stronger and I finally after patience and persistence learnt that success is a slow process and can be a painful process which I take with me in all walks of life. I believe that to become a professional actor, that mastering acting is only part of the journey but to keep healthy and balanced is also very important in any path. I soon enough began helping in class to teach other students movements and skills that I was taught which helped develop leadership and teaming skills.

Going to college has definitely been an eye opening experience as I have met different people from different backgrounds which going to a private middle/high school had not taught me. Learning and respecting the new cultures I have been introduced to has been a fresh experience. This year at college we are working  on a musical and singing production of A Christmas Carol which will be my first time doing something of this calibur which will be fun and I have also been given the opportunity to work at RADA on saturdays which is also exciting.
